In the municipal primary school Kiril i Metodij v. Kanatlarci 219 students are included in the teaching process (37 Macedonian students and 183 Turkish students).
The school is multiethnic, and teaching is conducted in Turkish and Macedonian language. Sections and extracurricular activities are held within the school, such as: section for foreign languages, eco section, mathematical section, literature section (in Turkish and Macedonian), multimedia section, art section, school choir. Within the school and in cooperation with other schools, competitions are held in handball, basketball, football, volleyball and ping pong in which a large number of students participate.
The students also work on various projects and have won several awards. One such project was the multi-media project “Adobe-the Voice of the Young”, which was held for 3 years in a row, where students from Turkish and Macedonian background participated, worked together on recording films, designing posters and stories on given topics: Problems of young people in their environment, such as “Premature marriage”, “Violence”, “Stop for drug use” and others. Topics for which the students themselves are concerned.
For the third year in a row, extracurricular project activities under the Nansen Model for Integrated – Intercultural Education are held, and students and teachers from Turkish and Macedonian background participate in these project activities. This is a good example of improving and enhancing the quality of teaching and interethnic relations between students and teachers.
These activities are supported by the Nansen Dialogue Center – Skopje (through training of teachers for integrated and intercultural education). Through these activities, the school positively influences the building and strengthening of cooperation between students and teachers, respecting the differences from the two communities, building confidence, friendship and tolerance, support and mutual cooperation.
